Longevity Tip: Top 5 Findings from Longevity Study

Tip Summary: A new study finds that certain physical characteristics can determine longer lifespan, including genetics, size, gender, and lifestyle.

Hey Dog Longevity friends! Today, we're looking into a Nature article that was just published yesterday, that investigated the relationship of bodily characteristics and their relationship with longevity. They looked into genetic, size, and other measurable parameters that they could use to compare and contrast how they affected longevity. Let’s look at some of their findings:

  1. Genetic Diversity: Crossbred dogs often outlive purebreds, highlighting the importance of genetic diversity in enhancing health and longevity. They study found that mix-breeds tend to live about 1.2 years longer than their counterparts of the same size.

  2. Size Impact: Smaller breeds tend to live longer. This appears to be a very clear conclusion. This is also something that has led some dog longevity companies to pursue targeting the growth factor hormone. Tailoring care to your dog's size can significantly impact their lifespan.

  3. Skull Shape: Dogs with different skull shapes have varying health risks. Recognizing these can guide in providing preventive care tailored to your dog's breed.

  4. Female Advantage: The study highlighted the fact that female dogs tend to have longer average lifespans, accounting for an increase of 18.6% difference in the same breeds.

  5. Lifestyle Matters: Adjusting your dog's diet, exercise, and environment based on their breed, size, and head shape can lead to a longer life.

Implications for Longevity: Many of the takeaways from this study are limited to the factors that determine longevity, not necessarily things that we can do to improve our dogs’ longevity. The one variable control that we have as dog parents is the lifestyle toggle - feeding, exercise, and environmental support.

Update #1

Earlene’s Story: Earlene has 3 Dachshunds; Joy (18), Kitsune (4), and Hugo (5mos). She got early access to our Longevity & Vitality chews last month, and started giving them to Joy, her oldest. Joy has had skin warts for years, something her Veterinarian attributed to old age. Here’s how they looked before she started taking the chews:

Joy’s warts before Longevity & Vitality chews

After giving Joy the longevity & vitality chews for about 30 days, Earlene started noticing that her warts were disappearing. This is because warts are a product of aging cells. The older the cells, the less regulation they can provide. Now that she’s been renewing her cells with the Naturally Royal chews, here are the results after just one month:

Amazing progress for Joy! It’s so great to see our chews having such a positive impact in such a short period of time.
