Daily Longevity Tip: Green-Lipped Mussels for Joint Health

Tip Summary: GLMs have been shown to reduce joint pain and inflammation in dogs, improving their mobility and quality of life.

Hey Dog Longevity friends! Have you ever heard about the health benefits of Green-Lipped Mussels (GLMs)? GLMs are shellfish from New Zealand, recognized for their nutritional value, that also have amazing anti-inflammatory properties and joint health benefits. Let’s dive into how GLMs can help with joint health, the benefit for dogs, and key takeaways for dog parents:

GLMs and Joint Health:

  • Research indicates that coastal Maoris in New Zealand, who regularly consume GLMs, have a low incidence of arthritis.

  • GLMs contain omega-3 fatty acids, ETA, and other compounds that improve joint lubrication, reduce inflammation and pain, and potentially help regenerate damaged joint cartilage.

Benefits for Dogs:

  • GLMs have been shown to reduce joint pain and inflammation in dogs, improving their mobility and quality of life.

  • They are considered a safe, natural alternative to NSAIDs for pain relief, without the associated side effects like vomiting or ulcers.

Key Takeaways for Dog Parents:

  1. Joint Health Support: Incorporating GLMs into your dog's diet can help manage symptoms of osteoarthritis and maintain healthy joints.

  2. Safety Profile: GLMs are safe for dogs of all ages and can be used alongside other medications.

  3. Preventive Care: Starting GLMs at a young age can be beneficial for delaying the onset of joint issues.

  4. Consult Your Vet: Always discuss new supplements with your veterinarian, especially for dogs with existing health conditions or on medication.

Green-Lipped Mussels offer a promising natural solution to support joint health in dogs, contributing to their overall longevity and well-being.

Dog Longevity Company Weekly Update

Background: We want our dogs to live as long as possible, so we’ve been building a company focused exclusively on providing longevity solutions, guided by the latest science. We started a few months ago, and all updates have been posted inside the Facebook community. We’re starting with a longevity supplement that includes NMN, a compound that is proven to extend lifespan in mice by 29%. We want that for our dogs. Here’s our progress for the week:

  1. Container Updates: After designing the label and drafting mockups, we found a manufacturer that could create an aluminum container with a double seal. We wanted the container to be aluminum so that it’s recyclable, and to have a double seal to keep the chews fresh for as long as possible. Here’s the first run!

  2. Graphics Updates: Finished our first draft of educational infographics for the supplement, highlighting the most important active ingredients that contribute to longevity. Each ingredient supports slowing aging in some important way, so we wanted to communicate those as effectively as possible. All infographics were posted in the Facebook group, but here’s an example that explains the ingredients.

Previous Updates: All past updates are archived in the Dog Longevity Facebook community, under the “Dog Longevity Company Updates” guide.

Feedback Encouraged: This is a collaborative development process, so if you have any recommendations, all feedback is welcome! You can either join the Facebook group or reply directly to the email.

Announcement: We’ll be doing a (free) weekly Facebook Live longevity discussion + Q&A with Dr. Helen Stortz, DVM, today, 8 December at 8PM EST. This will be held in the Dog Longevity Facebook community. The link to join the community is below:
